Skull + Silverware Print: Available Online + In-Store

This month I roamed the endless aisles at the National Stationary Show in search of fresh designs and interesting gift items. I picked up a ton of stationary that gave me the giggles, a fair amount of staple products and then ... some serious curiosities. One of which is this killer (literally?) print by The Victory Special Press

(Actual size is 12x19.5")

And this broadside print is a steal at $15! It'll make the perfect gift for that gothic foodie (everyone has one of those friends) or badass chef. In the next couple of weeks we have some big changes coming to the website too ... so keep your eyes peeled for a ton of new products!

New to the shop: Freeze-dried Ducklings!

If you've stepped into Kanibal Home lately, you've noticed the shop's growing collection of taxidermy. We have a deer head, a few skeletons and fossils and a collection of rats and rodents for sale. We've also been working on adding a few of these curiosities to the online shop, including these cuties:

In addition to the ducklings we currently have in stock, we will also be adding red squirrels and chipmunks to the cuteness collection of taxidermy. Keep an eye out for those items in late February.

And for you animal lovers out there, don't worry I'm not murdering baby animals for decor purposes. Kanibal Home has partnered with a small, family-owned taxidermy shop to source all of the shop's new pieces. These animals died naturally (we have the paperwork to prove it) and we're continuing our mission to connect and work with small businesses to bring curiosities into the online store.

Designer Spotlight: Rubella Jewelry

When I think of the ladies behind Rubella Jewelry I imagine Zombie Boy in the Mugler campaign: A dichotomy of distinct characteristics. A sophistication and touch of femininity cut with a dark undertone. Pretty silhouettes paired with the morbid.

I guess the very bones of the collection is this: You can wear Rubella jewelry in a myriad of ways, however there's always going to be something a little sinister hiding just under the surface. And, over here at Kanibal Home, that's what we love best.

And to keep you interested, here's a bit more info on Rubella Jewelry:

Rubella is a virus discovered by German doctors in the eighteenth century. It is also the alias of two artists who create (among many things) romantic and mysterious one of a kind pieces of jewelry featuring antique tintype photographs, chandelier crystals, old keys, bones, tiny knives, objects of faith and devotion, and other lovely relics which conjure up and cherish the past. Based in Jersey City, their creations can be found on Etsy, at select shops, and occasionally on the road at various craft fairs and shows. Visit Rubella at www.rubellajewelry.com.

New Kanibal Home Website!

An appealing and orderly website is a key component to any company's growth. Although Kanibal Home started out online, e-commerce has come a long way in just a few years. Back then everything was custom coded and -- honestly -- a little clunky. When the brick-and-mortar shop opened three years ago I was finally able to create a look-and-feel for Kanibal Home that expressed the shop's unique goods with creative displays and ever-changing merchandise. Sadly, the website fell off my radar a bit. Mainly because I could never achieve the same feeling online that I could in the store -- that customers were walking into a carefully curated domain that was both comfortable and inspiring.

Last year I took a hard look at the website and performed a major revamp. But it wasn't quite there yet. After a lot of back and forth (and wasted time), I decided to scrap the newly reworked site and start from scratch again.

And this is what we wound up with! What do you think of KH's new online home?

With the new website I will be able to offer an expanded product list, ever-changing merchandise and lots of other fancy new features.

Also to note: While the blog on this site will talk about e-commerce updates, we will continue to update our blogspot account with Jersey City-centric news, in-store promotions and special events.

Stay tuned for an onslaught of updates. And a BIG thank you for all the love -- you guys allow Kanibal Home to keep growing, both online and at our Jersey City location!
